A little tip from us here at Flounce - this works especially well with solid colours. If you are washing in a machine - wash your clothes inside out as the side that is presented in the wash will fade faster. If you have an old pair of pants lying around - go take a look. The inside of the pants are likely to be closer to it's original colour than the outside.
The downside of this is, if you have managed to tip that whole plate of pasta in your lap - then it may not wash everything out - so common sense prevails with this one. As a general rule though - lightly soiled clothing should be washed inside out to preserve colour.
If washing in warm water: the threads in fabric tend to swell and depending on the method of colour dying - the colour can escape and cause colour bleed or faster fading. Cold water wash minimises the risk of damaging the garment colour.
